Introduction

The development of Pharma Engineering Project Management (PEPM) was initiated by Novartis Pharma Ltd. in 1998 with the following goals:

  • To cover all aspects of project management tasks from design to commissioning of the sterile plant 303 in Stein.
  • To be simple to use
  • To be multi user capable

The first version was released at the beginning of 1999 and has since been constantly improved and new features have been added.

The current version requires Microsoft Access 2003, Excel XP (or later) and Word XP (or later). An interface to exchange data with Microsoft Project 2000/2002/2003 is available as option.

PEPM 4.0 consists of ten frontend modules which are linked to three databases, containing project data, base data and system data.

Modules

PEPM4 (Start Module)

  • Creation of new projects, definition of sub projects, work breakdown structure and numbering coding for documents and test plans
  • User group and user permissions
  • Project selection (database selection)
  • Language selection (currently German and English)
  • Access to the other modules

Documents, Schedules, Work Packages

  • Documents by document type: 
    Input form to record all documents by type for all objects (site, buildings, units, equipment units, …) including revisions
  • Documents by object: 
    Input form for all documents of one object including revisions
  • Scheduling:
    Baseline, planned and actual dates for all objects with predefined activities
  • Work packages:
    Description, activities and documents, responsibilities, planned and actual man hours /cost and expenses
  • Project phase plan:
    Document responsibility matrix by project phase
  • Document plan:
    Pivot table of documents versus objects

Cost

  • Cost estimate, scope changes, order requests, orders, invoices and final estimate by WBS object and cost control code

Qualification

  • Qualification plans
  • Test plans by unit, qualification plan and test plan overview
  • Scheduling for test plans and test execution

Change Management

  • Request, acceptance criteria and test scope
  • Permit
  • Realisation, release
  • Documents, notice of completion, acceptance
  • Cost of scope changes

Minutes Of Meetings And Issues

  • Minutes of meetings and issues by project/sub project and meeting
  • Open items by responsible, object and product for the entire project
  • Due items
  • Plan of weekly meetings

Project Staff

  • Details incl. function and category in the actual project
  • Instruction courses (planned, actual, result)
  • Planned absences
  • Actual hours/cost and expenses by project, work package and month,
    manual input or import via custom interface
  • Job description: 
    Link to electronic document

Interfaces

  • Interfaces to other ERP and PM systems may be supplied on request

Base Data

  • Input forms for tables common for all projects and for project specific tables which are defined at the beginning of a project

Custom Reports

  • This module provides access to all project and base data and can be used to develop custom reports

PEPM 4 is owned by Chemgineering AG, CH-4133 Pratteln. Licensing conditions have to be negotiated with the software owner.
